I photograph because the photograph is the most immediate expression of something I have seen and felt. It begins before thought has organized the encounter. The camera does not teach me to look, it follows a way of seeing that is already there.

Color is more than appearance. It carries the inner atmosphere of the moment, not only what the camera recorded, but what being there felt like.
